Brands Hatch - Ferrari UK Challenge 2024
In an electrifying start to the 2024 Ferrari UK Challenge season at Brands Hatch, new contender Darren Howell had a stunning debut performance in the Coppa Shell category. Racing under the banner of JCT600 Leeds, Howell's journey began with a standout pole position in qualifying on the iconic circuit.
Howell's qualifying lap of 48:595 secured him pole position, closely followed by seasoned racer Gary Redman, a mere 0.010 seconds adrift. This marked Howell's first foray into competitive racing within the Ferrari UK Challenge series..
As the Coppa Shell race commenced, the intensity was palpable. Despite starting from the front, Howell faced immediate pressure from his competitors. However, he demonstrated exceptional composure and skill, swiftly building a commanding lead over the chasing pack. Gary Redman, a familiar face in the series, attempted to challenge Howell but was overtaken by Peter Hunter in the early stages of the race.
Robert Rees, starting from a disadvantaged position due to a technical issue in qualifying, staged a great recovery. With his technicians' repairs enabling his participation, Rees demonstrated tenacity and skill, overtaking competitors and eventually seizing the lead from Howell. Robert Rees emerged as the winner of the Coppa Shell category, with Darren finishing closely behind in second.
As the series progresses, we look forward to seeing Darren's performance on track. We head to Oulton Park Circuit on the 10th and 11th May for the next round. Good luck Darren and we hope to see you there!
